THE BLURB OF A BAND IN OBSCURITY

IT'S OH SO QUIET..

But not quite as mental as Bjork. Things in The Watercats camp are very quiet at the moment. I'm happy to see that our last lovely song went down well, which proved to me that, yes, actually people do like light hearted and feel good things. Perhaps I need to focus on playing more D chords instead of always getting sucked in by the allure of E minor (the chord I think my soul is tuned to).
After we put that song up we were approached by a couple of lovely people. One of them, most of you know very well (but I'm not going to say anything more on that in case they change their mind,) the other person was a young person (a 25 yr old tyke). He hails from Dungarvan and we've met him a few times in local open mics. He managed to get a band together and they go by the name of LYRE DYCE, clever lot they are too. Ross Stack is the guys name and he does the singing and guitar stuff, he also loves arranging and recording, so got in touch to know if we fancied jamming and doing some recording with his gear..

A proverbial no brainer really. So we got together, found out that he also plays drums, very well, made the songs sound fantastic! We recorded a couple of songs which he is currently tweeking and putting drum tracks onto. Very excited about how they will turn out, Ross has a very similar idea to us about the sound and vibe of the songs, which is immediately a good thing. So at some point, we will post up the results (if I didn't fuck the singing up irrevocably).

As for gigs, well, we haven't been chasing much since Dublin, the lazy feckers that we are... I think we have to realise that, despite our obviously as yet undiscovered genius, the people will not come knocking our door down.. that we need to get off our holes and go pimping ourselves out.

We went to see this gig of Lyre Dyce and very good it was too (the young bastards! ;-D )

  1. Oooh, look forward to hearing the tweaked recordings! What luck to fall in other like-minded musos - they are indeed talented. Look forward to hearing the fruits of that collaboration as well.

  8. Lazy *****ers? Perhaps there is a case for sometimes not fretting over gigs and making income from them and falling back on just being creative and making music. I think as musicians we're so aware of how hard it is that gigs and cash are always at the front of our minds. But at the back of my mind I've got something Andy Warhol said, which is that "I've come to the conclusion you only get what you want when you stop wanting it. I consider this to be axiomatic."

  9. Funny, when you read back what you've just written. I sound like a right pompous git. :)

Perhaps it's just that as we haven't got any gigs at the moment, I'm just looking on the bright side!

we don't mind pompous gits, lol. Winter is always quiet time, and, well, yes, we are lazy feckers. We reap exactly what we sow, in our case.. a load of vegetables, some bric-a-brac and an overdue electricity bill :P
