THE BLURB OF A BAND IN OBSCURITY

THE BIG GIG

So, last week, we ventured to the big shmoke. Cork City for the Sound it out competition, our gig was at The Roundy House, a fantastic pokey roundy pub with the most amazing vaulted ceiling thing going on. I have to say it was one of the best nights we've ever had. The whole thing was very professional feeling, the sound-man Chris, made a great effort to make us sound perfect and bent over backwards to get Rons dodgy amp making the right noises.

THIS IS WHAT WATERCAT SOUNDCHECKS SOUND LIKE

We found out that we were on first, which was a relief, because to be honest we were feeling slightly intimidated by the other two bands set ups and they both sounded fantastic in the sound checks. We were looking forward to ploughing through our set and nuzzling some pints down for the rest of the night.

RON FLASHES HIS GUT FOR MR TULL

I had been planning some banter all week to add to our 'performance' and was delighted to find that waffling about any old crap in between songs goes a long way towards dispelling any nervous energy. The crowd were fantastic, one of those perfect audiences, attentive and wanting to be entertained and giving lots of appreciation along the way. It helped that there were a few pals in the back somewhere too.

PRE GIG RELAXATION

After about what seemed like only two minutes and an interval where the ronald had to blow his nose, our set was complete. Job done and some lovely comments uttered as we took our guitars to be put away.

THE BRILLIANT ROUNDY ROOM

Second band up were an amazing experimental, edgy group called Meadbh Boyd and M.A.S (the mutual appreciation society). they basically blew the room away with complex rhythms, fantastic singing and supremely groovy looking band members. The place was hopping with the tunes they created.

MEADBH BOYD AND M.A.S

Last up a band called Daphne in the Attic, they also had the place hopping with grungy folk tunes. We were loaded with our beers and good company and had a boogy.

DAPHNE IN THE ATTIC

All too soon the night was over, where-by we got taken home by our friend Brendan and stayed up with him until silly hours buzzing and drinking vodka.

ALL DONE

A couple of days later we saw the review of the night and were completely blown away! Meabdh Boyd were the band who deservedly got through, but reading the review and having the memory of the night, is enough for us to be going on with for a lifetime! to read our write up, click here :-D

  1. There's a lot of folk would give their left nut to be compared to good wine and L. Cohen!

Well done you! Well done indeed! :¬)

  5. Just went over and read the review, that's fan-effing-tastic, a very tasty review, for someone who appreciates a good glass of wine, I'll bet the bottle got emptied out pretty damn fast. Only solution in that case, is to open another fine bottle, and keep sipping... err, strumming... Lovely job !

  6. I'd already read the review so it was good to put some more pictures to it. Sounds like a great night and that it's not just all about winning - the UK band Polar Bear were "*nominated* for the Mercury Prize" and have been plugging it ever since.

I have no nuts to give, but had I have thought we'd ever be compared to such, I would have let someone stroke one of my boobies... turns out, I didn't need to though! who'd have thunk it :-)

    thanks bug lady!

    TITUS:

    DOMINIC:
that's our next secret ambition, before i die, I WILL APPEAR ON JOOLS HOLLAND. I will not stop until it is so... thanks for the kind words.

    NIAMH:
and mine too.. although i'm now allergic to most wines because of the sulphites.. (damn them).. never would have thought the songs were leonard Cohenesque,, huge, vast compliment, even if the reviewer was drunk at the time, lol!

    PETER:
yes, the autoboigraphy would just consist of this to be honest.. I've done feck all else of any merit in my life.. oh, except for that time I single handedly saved all the dolphines from extinction by swimming twelve miles under a storming ocean and plugged all the leaks in the nuclear waste barrels, before throwing them into space by my super human strength... but that was a lie.

    D.F.T.P'S;
not sure about the sensual, lol.. we're like a couple of seals with clothes on, on stage.. ( I seem to have an aquatic brain today). I think it helps if you're inebriated when you listen to us :-D cheers!
