It's all laid out ahead of us. A Bohemian blanket thrown nonchalantly over the country. We move over it like tiny things, get lost in the fibres and stare out from the weave, wonder about the artisan that made it.
All around us signs. Natural catchpas. Waiting for us to decipher them from the mud and branches.
And we sit. Wait for the sky to warm up. Make faces at the future and think of clouds and stars and those clean cut nights of frost to come.
Along the way, we will still measure our physique by whether we are still able to climb through the third rung of the gate complete with winter wear.
And one day, a day will be ours. Full and ripe and without the need to be better or richer or fuller or more alive. We will have a fleet of tour vans and a band that will remain real and non-pretentious and everyone will get on and won't get so drunk they forget things and we will go to hot places and play guitars to stunning audiences dressed in bohemian blankets, who, when they applaud, jangle with bells and beaded bracelets......

Yeah! and pigs will fly readying their selves to shit from great heights upon the heads of those who dare to dream, which is why I keep my dreams a closely guarded secret, and love pork scratchings!!!
Couldn't quite figure out from the photo if "The Watercats" is actually painted on the back of the vehicle, or if its written in the dirt and grime that tend to accumulate on cars ??? One day I guess it will be painted there in technicolor with a big band logo...
Ahh, when you hit the big time do you think you'll be able to give you old blogging pals backstage passes ? (and free beer of course too, right ??? Isn't that what rock stars do ???)
Love this, love this... As I was reading the post, I had "Little Women" - the soundtrack playing. I got lost in your countryside. Oh, to experience the green, the green. You've seen what ours looks like.
Hey, I can 'see' you playing in Canberra. We have a folk festival each year. I can see the Watercats there. Our children's music teacher plays there each year (banjo / dobro / violin / mandolin).
I can see you there, I tell you!
Aaah, the dreams, the dreams! You ARE a proper band. Now I have my new job and won't have to get up at bloody-hell o'clock in the morning to do IT stuff, I may venture forth into the glare of apathy and try out at a few local venues - hopefully with Don't Feed the Pixies alongside. Never give up! Never Surrender!
I hope that van is taxed.
Breathtaking scenery, beautiful philosophy and a tired aul' hiace, what more could a cat of the water want?
"Old Rudyard" sounds like sour grapes due to insufficient Mongoose interaction. Go rikitikitavi yourself!
I loved the photos, the writing and the sentiments.
The mucky van photo would make a great album cover.
Someone's written "who watches the watchmen" in the muck on the back of my car. Quite cool I thought - I don't think the rain's washed it off yet.
wow, a beautiful post of a saturday morning. Did you make the message in the puddle yourself?
The tour van is really very chic.
A glorious post, beautifully written! I love the shot of the sheep on the hill so much.
KIPLING: It's good to see there are such cheery optimistic people left on the planet...
OWEN: yes.. free beer, free cigarettes, free t-shirts and chocolate buns and mugs of tea.. like the idea of that psychedelic band emblem.. hhmmm...
As for the current name, it is in fact, dirt written and now has a copyright sign next to it thanks to the ronald :-)
MACHINIST'S WIFE: I can only imagine what it's like to be in a stifling hot hotness. It's not even as green as it usually is at the moment
:-). It's weird to think you guys are just moving into summer... sigh.. what are they again? As for the festival, that sounds completely amazing! We would be up for doing a world tour.. unfortunately I haven't got a passport and the ronald's runs out soon too..
ARGENT: You lucky bleeda! Sounds like a best of both worlds scenario :-) Please make sure you record any open mics you two get to, it's great to have them and plus, I want to watch the nervousness.. and revel in it.. whuhahahahahahahahahha.. and ye're great at it too, which is always a bonus!
EEJIT: taxed.!. eeerrrrr... tis in de posht gard!.... as fer the philosophy.. is that what it is?, lol.... you're right though, what more does a cat need than a dream and an old van...
(a couple of thousand earholes would do it..)
:-)
ENGLISH: hahahahahh!!.. yeh!.... KIPLING!.. ggggrrrrrrrrr!...
thank you english, glad you enjoyed the pics and ramblings. I really need to start walking a lot farther afield though... :-)
DOMINIC: lol.. bloody hell, where do you live!?... inside Oxford's philosophy faculty building? Tis a pretty deep sort of car dirt statement. There might be hope in disgruntled yoof yet!
You're right about the album cover too :-)
NIAMH: The puddle catchpa is actually pretty huge, it's a crossing between two fields and the marks are from landrover and tractor wheels going through the mud. You should see the van inside! It's a veritable trove of luxury!
LYDIA: Glad you enjoyed.. I like the sheep too, their faces make me laugh :-D
I finally deciphered the mud writing... it says "free car wash with fill up".
Beautiful pictures. You can never post too many pictures. Or your music...videos etc...
I would just like to point out to the follows of this wonderful site that despite my insistance on the glass being half empty rather than half full I have been to their gigs, sharred with them wine and beer and song, have argued into the night about how I like their stuff so it ain't all bad. As for English rider well fancy using my personal favourite animal character to diss! me well done!!
It is beautifully written this. And I like Maybillities as an alternative band name (or song/album name?) too. Puts me in mind of the bare necessities and the beverley hill billies and all kinds of things.
x
here's a thought! Am I the only person here who does not know what a CATCHPAS is? I've tried my dictionary, but no luck' please advise!!
@ELOH: I think you might be right.. :-)... Thanks for liking us, lol.. I shall endeavor to keep posting. (though, currently brain dead).
KIPLING: Mongeeesees..... ahh, you gotta love the little feckers! You've been to our gigs?... feckit!... and we thought we got away with them :-)
Oh, and a catchpa is one of those thingyies that you have to fill in before leaving a comment or log into sites, all the fecked up letters and stuff. I have my catchpa facility disabled.
RACHEL: This post has been a phenominal success.. we have the album cover and name too.. *cue picture of the van with the word "maybillities" at the top.. cheers! :-)
You have a beautiful place to dream in!
Right - now lets be serious guys: firstly lovely pictures, great place to live
Secondly - give me a shout if you have space on the tourbus guys, we look forward to your appearance on Later... in the near future. Why not send them a tape and be damned. If you don't I bleeding well will!!
Can't you just hear the crowd chanting?
Watercats, watercats, watercats, water cats, water cats water-ca-ats and so forth??
